I am thinking of buying a '97 celica 2.0gt (import) and am worried about the price of parts. Can anyone tell me which parts are different to the UK spec and anything else i should be thinking about when buying an import.

All parts should be the same. I drive an unknown (in UK) Celica variant called Curren 2.0Gt and I have NEVER had any problems with parts etc. Everything on my car is normal ST202 parts except the engine which is from Carina/Corona/MR2 mki etc but being a celica you should have a 3sFE(econ sports)/3sGE(sports)/3sGTE(sports turbo). In short, you shouldn't have any bother. The only difference i can think of is:- for some reason JDM celica's are wider than export Celica's so F and R slam panels and streering rack would be wider.

The parts themselves are cheap and widely available. The only thing that may cost a bit is the diagnostics. I had a Celica GT import and everytime i had a electric fault i had to take it to my local Toyota dealer. The labour costs were about £62.50 an hour and the price for parts were out of this world. What i used to do was take it in just for the diagnostics and phone this place called Motor-tec on 0121 3590000 and they supllied and fitted the parts for a fraction of the dealer price.

Hope this helps.
