2009 Verso Fuel Gauge

Advice on what the gauge actually tells you would be welcome. (The manual just seems to say that the gauge shows how much fuel is in the tank - a glaringly obvious statement if there ever was one - without giving any detail.)

There are nine bars and a letter 'R'. I had wondered if the 'R' stood for Reserve and was effectively a tenth step meaning that each bar was about 10%.

Today on reaching one bar I filled up with 40L which, given a 60L capacity, suggests the tank was still one third full despite the one bar implication that it was nearing empty.

In other posts I have read comments that the last bar flashes when fuel gets low.

Any insight into how the 09 Verso gauge actually works would be welcome.

You can press the display button and scroll through the distance left in tank .average speed ,and average miles per gallon etc to be honest I do not know if its very accurate !! I never let my car get so low that I do not know what happens when its low

When mine says 0 km to go I can get 50 litres in the 60l tank. So it seams like a reserve but I haven't driven so far the last bar would flash...

Shouldn't drive the tank empty, especially in the winter up here, but maybe Toyota has thought about that and done it this way?

Mine is a 2006 so and earlier car but it clearly has a fuel tank which is much wider at the top than it is a the bottom.

Its a diesel so supposedly 55l tank

If I fill it to the brim the needle goes past the full mark & it takes about 100 miles for it to come down to the full mark.

After 200 miles it will be at the 3/4 mark & 300 miles it will be at the 1/2 mark

I refill it when the light comes on - which is usually at about 420 miles & it'll take around 48-49 litres.
