Lowering 25mm - Price & Fitting

Just rang my local Toyota dealer to get a quote for lowering the IQ using the official Toyota -25mm springs.

This is what they came up with:

25mm Lowering Springs

PZ494-I0721-00

Part: £145.24 inc vat

Fitting: £546.00 inc vat (5 hours)

Total: £691.24 inc vat

That is expensive!

Question is, if I bought them - could I fit them myself?

I'm reasonably proficiant in vehicle maintenance, but has anyone else fitted their own?

Any specialist tools required?

How long did it take?

wow that is expensive, must be a long job.

I am going to hopefully get my friend to do it but will ask how long and difficuclt it is.

Also can we fit the electric adjustable ones, that would be great fun.

My partner fitted mine.... He said the rear ones were easy...fronts were quite hard because of the layout etc. Took about 3-4 hours i think. The only tools we needed to buy were spring compressors as we didn't have any.

My dealer could find me the TTE springs (-25mm) for 275€ which means 247.62 GBP... without fitting !

If they mess and fit them for a good price i'll take them in france... if not i'll order them in great britain and find someone to install them !

If you use the tecdoc download it is easy. All the torque settings etc are included for refitting. It is just a case of following the instructions.

I fitted my springs at work in just over an hour. I then checked the wheel alignment which took a further 30 mins. Although I had a full workshop and tools at my disposal, I think a semi skilled mechanic at home could easily fit the springs in under 3 hours.

A local garage should be able to fit them in under 2 hours, for about £100-150. As long as they fit them as per the instructions and genuine parts are used, your waranty is untouched.

The hardest part for me was removing the windscreen wipers, as they were a bit tight. The front struts come off as a complete assembly, which is then easy to take apart on a workbench. The rear springs take 10 mins to fit.

pointless checking the tracking straight after lowering as the springs wont drop the full amount for a few 00 miles(settling in time) so you will need to do it again.

Tracking won't change when the springs get settled.

I checked the wheel alignment when I fitted the springs, and I have also checked it again this week, now that I have driven a few hundred miles. The Toyota tecdoc suggests checking the alignment as part of the fitting process.

Not just wheel alignment, but caster and camber angle need to be checked. I always check the four wheel alignment of a vehicle where the suspension is disturbed for any work. It is good practice. All the vehicles get the same treatment at work, as they tend to get a harder life than normal civilian cars.

When I checked the alignment once the springs had settled, the camber and alignment of the N/S/F was outside of the recommended settings. I have managed to get it within limits, but I will either buy, or more probably make some camber adjustment bolts to retify things properly. Otherwise the inside edges of the tyres will wear excessively, and the CV joint and wheel bearings will be under more stress.

Dealer checked the wheel alignment after fitting the springs.........drove like a dream so I knew nothing could be seriously wrong.

Next year summer: new wheels whith new (wider) tires (nothing over te top).......have it checked when they fit the new wheels.

Near Paris I found a dealer that can install these for 480€

springs : 270€ TTC

fitting : 210€ TTC

If I buy these springs in UK : 370€+

springs : 160€ TTC (according to MattIQ's prices)

delivery : ???

fitting : 210€ TTC at least (but can make it fitted for less miney...)

Anyone to tell me if his dealer agrees to send springs in france please ?

Took an executive decision today and ordered the lowering springs, to take advantage of the last days of 15% VAT, before it goes back up to 17.5% on 1st Jan.

25mm Lowering Springs PZ494-I0721-00 £145.24 inc vat (@15%)

25mm Lowering Springs PZ494-I0721-00 £148.40 inc vat (@17.5%)

Now I'll either fit them myself when the weather gets warmer, or get a local garage to do it.
