Title says it all.

I've seen the pictures of the new additional door seal fitted.

Does it have to come as part of a warranty leak claim or can I

buy some before my warranty expires?

Anybody?

Ian.

I've just contacted my local dealer.

You CAN buy just the extra seal......

£85.00 per car!

£85 per car!? :o What for 2 bits of rubber that stick on the inside of you car? YOU ARE FLIPPING JOKING!? Did you get a quote for supply, and fit or just for the parts?

Sorry for the delay. Just been on holiday for a week.

£85.00 is supply only.

Didn't ask for a price for them fitting.

(You can't speak when you've passed out!)

I ordered

THIS

just before I went away.

A neighbour has just brought it round.

Arrived in less than a week.

At first inspection, it appears good quality.

If I fit it and it's any good, I'll post pictures.

Dosent resemble the toyota item and looks a little to thick compared to the toyota item, the seal runs from the mirror to a designated point at the rear, stoping 10cms from a point, meaning the the trim stops short just after the last door and not continuing the ful length of the apperture, that prob is double dutch to you all out there.

If your car is a 5door,you may have probs at the b pillar, the o/e item is very flexible and easy to fit.

I realise it's different, I'll have to sort out my own fitting position.

I was just after a "belt & braces" solution in case the Aygo leaks

at the original seal.

What I'm hoping to do is to run the "tubular" part of the seal

in a manner that will bridge the gap between the very top of the

door & the edge of the roof.

Hopefully, this should stop large quantities of water landing

on the original seal. I'm going to start near the hinge and at the rear,

finish with a slight downward curve. (Our Aygos are both 3 door)

I'll give it a go. If it doesn't work out, I can always take it off again.

If the Toyota additional seal was £20.00 or thereabouts, I'd buy a set tomorrow but £85.00.....

I'll try something else first!

Just waiting for a warmer day now!

OK.

Short length of seal tried out.

Fitted perfectly. Closed door, Perfect.

Fills the gap exactly.

However......

The adhesive is rubbish. If the adhesive was good quality, it would

have provided a perfect, neat solution.

It came unstuck! Bugger!

It might be too cold for the adhesive to properly stick.

Also it looks like the ahesive is now "shear-loaded", is there no way of mounting the seal so it

gets compressed in instead of sideways? Like mounting it on the DOOR instead of the carbody?

Hi Jan.

Yes, it was probably too cold.

The quick diagram doesn't really show the whole picture.

The area where the adhesive strip fits is concave, not flat,

so all the time the door is open, the foam is springing back to its

normal shape and "removing" itself.

I still think the concept is a good one.

In the summer, when its warmer, I might try again but with some quality

adhesive foam. 3M or similar. (The type used to stick on the black door protection strips).

It is still removeable with the application of heat but other than that, VERY good at its job.

Great idea on the extra door sealing, I've had a hunt around the net and come up with this a bit more choice rubber seals the sponge rubber section looks promising, you would then just need some good automotive double sided tape :)

EXCELLENT FIND !

Opens up a lot more ideas.

Might order a 6 Metre roll of:-

"Plain Expanded Neoprene. 12mm x 3mm" Just to put on the order form "!Removed!"

*giggles like a girl*

Here's an idea...... I might stick a large lump of blue-tac

onto the door frame with a bit of cling film covering it then shut the door.

Open the door again and I'll be able to get an idea of the cross-section required.

It would be nice if it was something simple (cheap).

It will of coure be the most expensive one they have.

Still,......What price a dry car that you don't have to worry about when its throwing it down?

Use a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive before applying, it will soon cool down in this weather once in situ

OK. Here goes.

Squashed Blue-Tac into door gap in several places......same section all along door.

There is a convenient 90 degree "shelf" on top of the door.

I then made a 20mm sausage of Blue-Tac and placed it on the door shelf,

then closed the door.

After careful measuring of Blue-Tac, The 19mm Neoprene Cord section ENC613

Seems to fit the bill. It should squash by about 3-4mm.

I'm thinking......

Run a bead of silicone sealant in the 90 degree door top / edge.

Put the seal in place, close the door and leave for a few hours?

This should then prevent water entering via the door gap so the internal factory

seal should hardly get wet.

Any suggestions / takers?

The 16mm round seal could be stuck to the door frame..

ENC%20groupsmall.jpg

Or maybe this shape stuck above the orginal door seal...

Hi, Have been following your post, another suggestion regarding fitting seal, temperature as mentioned but also make sure you clean the surface to be used removing any dirt and any silicone residue, if any polish or any other similar products are on the surface the adhesive will not adhere to the surface correctly. The second item of seal you show looks good for the job uncle Bob.

hope all works well for you.

I must be one of the lucky few who don't have any leaks but I'm still interested to see what would work , just for future reference.
