Extra Boot Lighting 4.3 (quick Question)

Finally bought a 12v light to improve the light in the boot.

Just read Anchorman's excellent guide but because I am lazy (and got fed up taking the panel of the rear door when I did the rev. camera and its replacement!) are the same wires 'available' through the rear side panel in the trunking? has anybody connected there instead of the rear door?

From memory, I think it is possible to access the connector shown in Anchorman's photo #6 through the pull out cover in right [hinge side] boot panel but I could be mistaken.

Local Hero did same as me though - took feed direct from light in door panel and through the rubber boot by the hinge. It's a bit of a wriggle with a piece of stiff wire to pull the new wire through and you need to be patient but it is doable. The lamp just pops out of the door panel and you can either use piggy back spade conectors or scotch locks

It is also possible to route across to other side by running the loop wire under the trim that holds the bottom of the door seal down.

Deffinitely no need to take door panel off.

  • 1 month later...

Only just got round to this (Christmas breaks are useful!) and yes, it is possible to connect a rear light by using the access panel in the boot, rather than having to go into the rear door at all.

The same wiring loom just behind the panel carries the wires that lead to the light. One is pink (only one in the loom) the other is blue. There are a few blues, but with a multitester (and an assistant!!) it is poss to find out which is the right one by pressing the rear door switch (rubber covered plungy thingy/push switch at the door catch side).

Two soldered connections later - job done - I can finally see the shopping bags on these dark winter days :yahoo:

And you should be able to find the 'Curry hooks' when you collect a takeaway so no more spilled Vindaloo :arabia:

Curry hooks eh, thought they were for restraing children on long journeys

Thanks also to Anchorman - had used your photo to id pink and blue - just had to locate them in the car then only needed about a foot of wire to connect.
