Hello,

I used to have a Yaris 1.0 before I got the Corolla. None of my friends

would believe it was a 1.0 :D

The Toyota 1.0 is a bit more powerful than the original 1.3 Ka engine,

as it is far superior technology-wise. The Ford 1.25 overhead cam

engine wouldn't fit in the Ka engine bay, so they had to resort to the

ancient pushrod version. That engine belongs in a museum!

Like all the modern Toyota engines, the 1.0 revs up really easily. You

don't get that much torque, but it still pulls nicely. I'd say on the

motorway it will cruise quite happily at 80mph, but the short gearing

makes it a bit buzzy. I kept mine for a year, though, and found it not

only fun to drive but also very practical with the movable rear seat.

Drove to Belgium for a regatta with a couple of friends and all our

luggage and it was very comfortable. Couldn't have fitted that lot

in a Ka :(

I eventually changed up because firstly I wanted more power, but

also because I had an older Yaris which didn't have ABS. After

skidding off the road, in admittedly very slippery conditions, I

decided I wanted the electronic gadgets on the Corolla.

Cheers

Paul.

I agree that the 1.0 will be perfect for your situation - I too had one, but decided to exchange it for a 1.3 due to doing a lot of load lugging on the motorway, but I was pretty chuffed with it when i had it. As said before, people couldn't believe that it was a 1.0, and economy was really good.

Good luck in finding a nice one

Pav

Thanks Paul/Pav

im told it is a great car.paul my other car is a corolla and befor that i had the corolla gti which was all so good hence the reason i wish to change the ka.you both and many others on the toyota site and beyond say how good the yaris is.im going to have to take one out and put it to the test, but only the 1.0 as i see no need to go to the extra expence of the 1.3 even though i dont dout it is allso a great runner.

thanks again paul/pav

I have a 1litre and it does walk all over the Ka beats those Clio's too 1.2 16v but it maqybe just me the driver being too good ;)

I get about 48miles to the gallon and some of that is motorway driving and includes standing in traffic too. I really reccomend the 1.0 as it is dead eccconomical and is a top runabout

not that it actually matters a jot of course, but 0-60 in a 1.0 yaris can be completed in a shade under 12 seconds ... this is a 1.0 engine remember!!! and the car isn't *that* light either, it's not a cinquicento afterall!

it is a belter of a little car and you can't go far wrong for a runabout :)

I would say, go test drive the 1.0 and then the 1.3 straight after.... the fuel consumption is hardly any different in both cars and you get a little more poke from the 1.3 obviously.

Having said that, our 1.0 can cope with 4-5 adults no problem once u get it rolling

cruises remarkably well at 80 in 5th and i've heard that they will do in excess of 115mph :o

as it's 16v u don't get much torque low down, or across the rev range at all actually! BUT, the vvti makes up for it and once u sail into 4500 revs it starts to come alive. That's the reason why it's nippier than the other 1.2's and 1.3's on the road :)

looks lovely as well

with VVTI the 1.0 is a 1.0L - 1.2L

1.3 is 1.1 - 1.4
