Central Locking

hi im new to the forum so your help would be great.my key will not unlock the doors(i unlock them manually) but it will close them all.is there anyone who knows why this would happen and how to fix it?its an avensis saloon 1.6 engine 1999.

The exact same thing happened to me two months ago(1998 avensis 1.8 hatchback, wouldn't unlock doors remotely, only lock).

It turned out to be the key circuitry.

If you open the key's casing(use a coin to flip it open), and look at the unlock button on the circuit board, you will most likely find that the switch itself is either very worn, or that it has disintegrated completely.

If that's the case, you need a new key.
