had a quick check & didn't see 1 but if someone has already posted this apologies

Toyota #4

Avensis #9

The only problem I see with this survey, that companies will run their cars to around 70-80K (most leases) and only then the big problem arrive... did I mention 'head gasket' on Avensis?

(not wanting to cross-post, just asked the question in reply to anothe thread... Head gasket)

that's probably equally true of all cars/manufacturers though - it may not necessarily be a headgasket but something else is likely to go the more miles that get done.

I know that when I was researching to buy that Fords had problems with their TDCi engines, VWs had problems with their engines & their DSG automatic trannies (apparently only 1 facility in the UK was equipped to look at/repair them) etc. etc.

The other thing is that this survey does not divide into diesel/petrol. I read a coment somewhere, that the new diesel engins are more economical, but the the development is not finished in the sense that there is not enough field information to make them more reliable and that at the moment the petrol engins are more relible ling term. That is despite the face that most of us by Diesel for the long distanses we do. I had before a French car (yes, admit, the one with the lion) and one was running to above 200K, and there was too much to fix (around, not the engin) so bought another one, which gave the ghost after 120K... and decided I am buying somthing reliable, and got a Toyota... and facing the evidence that this one will last even less...

I had looked for data on reliability that separate petrol/diesel, but could not find, as most surveys bunch manufacturer car together.

Maybe opt to buy the cheapest possible, so not that worried if it goes...
