Really Impressed After 1 Week (gen Ii)

We've done about 100miles on our 2006 T3 now and my wife and I are really impressed.

Running air con and cd player all the time just on short journeys we are getting an average 49mpg indicated on the mfd,

so it certainly meets our objective of doubling 23mpg from our Volvo.

Just had my first quick blast on the motorway - now I've read those reader reviews that say they ran out of road before they hit motorway speed, but I'm impressed by the amount of torque available at all speeds. Even at 50-70mph the engine pulls easily and certainly matches the traffic. No worries about overtaking.

Brakes are excellent once you get used to the feel.

The only wierd thing is that, when I'm a passenger, the regenerative braking feels like the driver is actually braking for some reason - just a wierd psychological thing that I only slightly notice if I'm the driver.

cootuk,

It is great you are impressed with the Prius. I think you can get more than your 49MPG indicated. Next time you fill up do not forget to do a fuel reset.

I do not think you need air con all the time. If you are not misted up just set the temp and fan setting for what you want to be comfortable and leave air con off. See what MPG you get then. I am getting 55.5 MPG. In the Summer I got over 60 MPG. I always put air con on if the car mists up.

I also think the torque is excellent.

Happy motoring. Chris.

Hey I'm glad you went for it and got one :) You'll love it and will forget what filling up a car is all about.

I've found the onboard computer fuel consumption readings to be out a little by a couple mpg. The gauge will read 52mpg when I only get 49 etc. Try the 'fuelly' website that I use. It's free and dead easy to use and gives you a log of what you are actually getting each time you fill up. I know mine is only showing 49mpg but that isn't bad when you see the average speed I managed for the miles etc.

Once again you've made a great choice with the Prius and I'm sure you'll love driving it.

Turning off the air con and the mpg rises to just over 50mpg - though the outside air temp is now 3degC.

At least the ice warning 'snowflake' is now tested as working!

On the bad side we've picked up the first dent...looks like someone has pushed a trolley handle into a door just above the handle. Definitely too high to be done by a hand on the handle and not scraped the paint off, but shallow enough that it should pop out with the correct technique.

Thats one thing I noticed with mine, the material of the door skins, wings etc seems to be very thin, weight saving I guess, so it doesn't take much to cop a dent :(

We got to use the engine braking 'B' setting tonight as there's a steep hill we go down once a week.

Certainly makes a big difference and gives a good controlled descent on the hill we go down.

mpg seems to have settled around 47mpg as it's cold and the school run of a couple of miles kills the mpg.

Wife works local at lunchtimes so we have three short return trips every day from cold.

The consumption screen (updated every 5mins for mpG) seems to be most useful, whereas the energy flow is more for showing other people what's going on and entertaining passengers.

The only negatives we get from people are Top Gear types who drive Golf diesels - they can't seem to understand what Urban means when it comes to fuel consumption, and what the lack of a decent drive does to a diesel particulate filter.

I'm glad you're getting similar mileage to me. With the cold weather and round town driving my consumption is down to mid 40's. I big Battery gets sapped with all the lights etc on at once.

Refering to the point above, that is one of the reasons why I considered the Prius in the first place as it's a petrol. With the latest diesels having particle filters I fear many people will start to have problems in the future if they use their cars in the town/city. A petrol doesn't have this problem as such and the hybid doesn't at all

Had an Avensis diesel for 3 1/2 years, thankfully just before the particulate filters came in, but was still sooo happy to get back to a petrol (well hybrid) Colleagues who have the newer Toyota diesels are already grumbling about fuel consumption, which cheers me up no end lol!
