Rav4 V Reg 2000 Cambelt Or Chain

I am in the process of buying one for my wife and i believe them to have cambelts.

I have seen 4 and two of the owners said they have belts and the other two said chains.

So which owners are correct?

They are all 2000 V reg ex 3dr models.

belts mate, it was only the vvti that have chains.

Hi all

I just double checked and it could be either

00-06 2 ltr 1AZ-FE = chain

00-06 1.8 ltr 1ZZ-FE = chain

94-00 2 ltr 3S-FE = belt

so they all could be right.

I just bought my wfe a 2002 Rav 4 2000 VVTI it has done 60,000 miles

Have ordered a new Alt. belt & tried to order a new timming belt from

my local auto spare shop , he had a problem finding a belt listed for

a 1AZ-FE Engine , so its good news to find out this Engine if fitted with

a chain
