Hi folks, quick question. How much would my 08 xtr (side steps, leather, detachable tow bar) be worth right now private sale.....I went on a website which quoted £11500.....that is a frightening amout of money to lose in 18 months ( I paid 23k )

You could also try both sites links below. Top end cars are notorious for losing the bulk of their depreciation in the first two years - not nice but a hard fact of life apart from the recession.:) Any honest car salesman (does such a person exist ) will tell you exaclty what your car is worth - it's what someone is prepared to give you for it - no more no less.:)

Its an unfortunate fact, but cars are the biggest money pit on the planet. Pretty much every car will be worth less than 50% of what you paid for it in 3 years time. Thats why 3 years old is the best time to buy a car.

I expected a 50% hit after 3 years but after 18 months...ouch !

I wish I'd bought that 30th edition golf gti now....still costs a fortune !

Will I buy another new car?? I dont think so !

I thinks its worth more than that ............ "Whatcar" used car price guide says £13.5k private for a 2008/08 with 20k miles on , and thats without the extras you have but that is the diesel model . You always loose more on bought from new cars .

I know this doesn't reflect trade in prices but i called in my local MrT yesterday + they had 2@56plate XT3s on the forecourt, one petrol at £13495 + one diesel at£13995, neither were mint examples, they also had a very tidy 07 XT4 diesel at £14995, didn't really pay much attention to the mileage, makes £11500 for an 08 xtr with extras look derisory IMO...Stew
