Front Parking Sensors

I asked the dealer about front parking sensors for my G3 T-spirit, but they won't fit them as they MAY conflict with the still-unused parking sensors on the outer front wings. Has anyone ignored Toyota's advice and put some forward facing sensors on, and...... was it successful?

I have front sensors on my Gen 3 T-Spirit, but I didn't ignore Toyota's advice. They are listed as an accessory (Toyota Parking Aid, front four sensor system) under "Convenience" on page 38 of the 2009 Prius Brochure and I had them installed by the dealer when I bought the car.

The outward facing sensors on the front wings are part of the Intelligent Parking Assist system and the two systems are quite separate and do not interact with each other.

It sounds like your dealer is misinformed, or maybe just does not want to be bothered?

Your dealer is quite right. The front parking sensor kit is not compatible with the Gen 3 T-Spirit. I know as I had to get a new front bumper on my car (paid for by Toyota) as the original instructions did not correctly suggest this on the front - despite the information being inside. To be honest I've not really missed them. The rear parking camera is fantastic.

I've used the self parking a few times and it does work ok. But often its much quicker with the rear camera and the electric mirrors.

I am attaching a photograph that shows the dealer fitted sensors before they were painted to match the bodywork.

Yes, I dont know what kit your dealer fitted. The set my dealer attempted to fit (Jemca in London) where body coloured. Hidden on the last page of the instructions was the line "not compatible with IPA & therefore T-Spirit". I was told that Jemca were not the only dealer to have this issue and that Toyota in the UK had to replace a few new cars bumpers as a result.

I said way back on the 3rd September that the TS is not compatible due to the IPA sensors for the front bumper. I'm with you Wooski.

I took delivery of a new Prius Gen3 T-Spirit on September 2nd.

Among the options/accessories that I specified were the Protection pack listed on the Option packs page (page 36), (which includes four rearward facing sensors) and Front parking sensors as listed on the accessories page (page 38) of the 2009 Prius Brochure.

I agreed to take the car with the front and rear sensors unpainted in order to be able to have it on September 2nd because I wanted to trade my IS250 Lexus before the MOT was due and we were about to go on holiday. If I had wanted the sensors paint matched before delivery I would have had to wait a couple of days longer. I took the car back to the dealer a little over a week later when we returned from holiday and the sensors were paint matched to the body at that point and they are now all body coloured. Both the rear facing and the front facing sensors were black when fitted. I have spoken to the dealer since this thread started and am assured that both front and rear sensors are standard Toyota parts.

I have used both the Intelligent Parking system and the front and rear sensors on several occasions and both work as intended.

I have a 1.8 T Spirit on order. Order placed in August and delivery due in 10 days. I specified front and rear parking sensors to be added to the standard Park Assist and Rear Camera. About 4 weeks ago the dealer phoned to say they had been told, presumably by Toyota UK, that they could not fit FRONT sensors as they conflicted with the Park Assist. However, the dealer said that Toyota were working on the problem and that when it was sorted the front parking sensors could be retro fitted. Seems there is no problem with fitting the REAR sensors. I am looking forward to getting my car but I hope they can retro-fit the sensors as I don't like the idea of hitting the front on an unseen kerb or similar.

So, the dealers seem to be confused about this - thus us mortals. Sagitar - you are telling me exactly what I need to know - they can be fitted and they work without conflict so thank you for taking the trouble. I will ask my dealer again and failing that - will resort to an auto electrician. I use the IPA if I have lots of time to spare but otherwise think it is a gimmick - give me the sensors at the front anyday - they compliment the rear camera much better.

Amen to that. My Lexus IS250 had front and rear sensors but no IPA and I was very happy with it. If I had to choose to give up either the IPA or the front sensors, it would definitely be the IPA.

I think it is probably more accurate (but slower) than I am at parallel parking, but I can beat it hands down in car parks . . . . . :D

I do not understand this thread! I took delivery of my T-Spirit in mid October. I had ordered it with front sensors but it came with rear sensors by mistake. The front sensors were fitted a few days later (at home) by Jemca's third party technician. His only concern was that the sensor control unit should not be too near an ECU on the side panel behind the lower glove box as, on occasions, this had caused false sensing.

The front sensors work perfectly and I can leave the isolating switch on all the time. I do get alarms if I pull up too close to the car in front at traffic lights and also when passing through tight gaps. My sensors are mounted very similarly to the black ones in sagitar's photos.

The front sensors do not interfere with IPA and I cannot understand how anybody could believe they would - unless the sensor control box might interfere with the IPA control box if the two were physicallly close.

A little confused to rear this thread, the rear parking sensor can not be compatible.

mmm..If in that case, I had better to replace a replacement, I ever tried for some aftermarket parking sensor kit.

My friend's 2006 (06) T-SPIRIT, 31000 miles, excellent condition, with front parking sensors and rear parking camera/assist. But AFAIK, nothing was occured before of his parking sensor.
