on sunday i had the displeasure of the tailgate glass breaking (happened as i shut the 5th door, nothing trapped in it not sure why it broke)

this is inconvinient enough but the privacy glass isnt privacy glass per se, it is tinting film applied to std auris glass.

auto glass will fit a std auris rear screen but not the tint. the dealers will also have a std rear screen fitted but will not have it tinted as the say they do not know

what shade film is applied and do not want to have the wrong shade fitted.

not sure whats happening yet as i have just got off the phone to customer relations and they will let me know tommorow how to proceed.

just a warning though to all you sr180 owners that if you break any of the privacy glass it isnt straight forward to get it replaced.

cars now had no rear screen in for going on 3 nights, not ideal this weather.

If you have to get it tinted there is a very good tinter in Sutton in Ashfield (he did mine) avoid TintR in notts he did my EP3 and the work was very poor and he even coloured the glass in with black marker where he cut the film short. I would say the tint you want is 70% and it might be cheaper to get a normal window and get this tinted yourself as the tinting will only cost about £40, as for the match as its the rear on its own you wont notice at all ;)

I had the tint on the hatch start to lift just after I bought the car, took it straight back to a dealer, they fitted a new tint the same day, with a perfect match.

Any good tinter will be able to match it.

unnaceptable answer by the dealers...

as it is a standard specification in UK, there HAS to be a part number for the glass with TINT, and a part number without tint.

IF it was to be that the tint was applied by Toyota GB, as a unique UK specification for T180 SR180, which they did after delivery from factory, and at their Pre-delivery inspection, then Toyota GB will have a tech bulletin informing how to apply this film and who is the authorised fitter for aftersales...

prod a bit more and question Toyota GB... I am sure you should get the right answer... I'll be interested in knowing what the CS say to you...

basicaly they have looked at the part number and it is just a basic auris rear screen (already knew this as i work at burnaston and know the sr left with std auris glass.)

they have given me the number of a tinting company to contact regarding this. not best pleased though, will speak to the HR dept at work tomorrow. its ridiculous that a dealer (or CS for that matter) has no clear guidence on this issue.

will keep you posted.

the biggest issue is that after speaking to toyota insurance, a claim for glass and a claim for retinting will be treated as two claimes meaning a £120 exess payment from me!!!

I had a very similar problem with my Corolla SR where the rear tint was coming away, as I've been with the same garage for 3 years they tried spooning it off saying I had put the tints on the car, so I 'politely' explained that these cars came with the tints as standard... to which end they got their contracted tint man to replace it... to some this tint bloke up in just a few words I'd have to say he was not the best, but after 3 attempts it was 'OK' the best thing was Mr T paid for everything to be replaced as it was still under warranty.

had enough now. customer relations are no help.

going in tomorrow as there is no charge going to the Battery. the dealer can sort the lot. really shouldnt have this much hassle with a new car!!!

Could be worse......Break the little rear window on mine and you are looking at something near £2000 (no there isn't an extra zero)
