Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to get a sensible answer on here, as the 3 dealerships i have called can't give me a straight answer.....

Does anyone know how many miles you can get once the pertol gauge light starts flashing? I don't like leaving it to get that far, but now and then it happens, and i've been told anything from 5 - 30 miles till empty!!

Any help would be appreciated.

I am doing an excel file with my fuel consumption and "supposed fuel remaining" when i refill.

According to my file (and after 6000 km doing this) I can tell that for my IQ, assuming that the fuel tank capacity is 32 liters, the second step of the gauge disapears when there is less than 7 liters left.

(sorry for "liters & kms" lol)

From experience I've found that 50-60 miles is a good idea of how far you can go when it starts flashing.

Although this will depend on your driving style, so don't blame me if you run out!

Like i say i try not to go that low, but at least i feel better now knowing that i won't be pushing after 10 miles!

It’s easy to find out yourself with a simple calculation

When the petrol gauge starts flashing, fill it up to the brim and notice how much you put in.

If you know the capacity of the fuel tank take the amount you have just put in off the capacity. This will then be unique to your car and fuel gauge if done for several fill ups.

I’ve done this with my Yaris and I know that when the low fuel warning light comes on, I have a minimum of 7 litres left of fuel.

only filled up twice both times when light flashed to warm low fuel level

then only got 26 lts in

handbook says tank is 32 lts so should have 6 lts when light flashes good for 50-60 miles
