Hi all,

This is my first post so i appologise if this problem had bein discussed before, I have herd that the central locking is a bit of a weak link on some gen 7 celicas. And unfortunatly my 2001 vvti seams to have folowed suit.

The prombem is, the car will lock fine via the button on the key, but when i press the unlock button on the key, there is about a 5-10 second delay before the car unlocks. Although when I press the unlock button on the key i can hear a clicking sound from insde the car from the central locking, but it still doesnt unlock instantly.

I have also noticed that the central locking switch button on the centre console (near the electric window buttons) will lock the car, but nothing happens when i try to unlock the car via his button. I dont know if this could be affecting the unlocking from the button on the key.

I have replced the Battery in the key, checked all the fuses and am considering replacing the central locking switch.

Althought i have tried to find out about this problem, i couldnt seam to find anything which was actually the same as my problem. I have herd that central locking relay can deteriorate and loose resistance. I dont know how true or feasable this is but i have not explored this yet.

I would really appreciate any help with this problem as its drving me crazy trying to find a solution, and not being able to get into my car straight away. As i live in glossop where it rains alot 5-10 seconds of waiting around for the car to unlock means i get quite wet lol.

Thanks Tom.

Hi there,

I have no clue about wither these having a possible failing resistance, but perhaps you could start by checking if the actual door locking mechnism is jamming or too stiff, the delay could be the result of the central locking system attempting to move the door locking rods and if its too stiff, its jamming but "eventually" opening?

Here is a guide to removing the door panels and checking the bits associated with the locking mechnisms..
