Dim Dials On Dash Too Defo Dark...!

I'm finding I need to switch on the lights to see the readout of the digital clock and even the speedo is sometimes hard to see...

Is there a backlight that's on all the time or were the dials always this dim on a Mk 1...

From what i can remember,there are some bulbs in the dash unit,might be your cure, but there should be a switch which when the lights are on, you can alter the brightness of the lights, working from memory. Would have to check with my work colleague who drives 1

Yeh thanks I've got the dimmer turned full on....

But I'm finding during the day when I wouldn't usually have the lights on, the main dials seem to be very dark & I can't read the LCD clock.

I've noticed in more recent Toyotas such as my mum's Yaris the main dials have a nice bright backlight that's on when the ignition is on....

Does the Mk 1 Avensis come with this or are the main dash dials supposed to be lit only with daylight during the day...
