Hi Morgs and welcome to the club.

The simple answer to your question is that there is nowhere to plug your iPod in [unless a previous owner has added an interface kit] :(

Bit of a bummer but the good news is that kits are available and, if you look in the pinned 'Technical Hints and Tips' section you will find an excellent 'How to' posted by Anchorman :)

If you contact Parts King he will quote you a discount price for the genuine kit or you could go 'aftermarket' I guess.

Enjoy your RAV [and even more once you get your sounds]

Hi Morgs,

There is a cheaper and less hassle alternative to getting the interface fitted, ther are Ipod signal senders on the market.

i puchased one in the states years ago, and it has worked very well ever since, It simply transmits the signal of your Ipod to your car stereo via a "blank" FM station, I have mine tuned to my stereo and plugged into the cigarette lighter which also charges the ipod as well!

My wife has a new yaris which has an AUX input but unfortunately this does not charge her ipod, so she still has it in the car to hold her ipod on which is very neat as the interface kit means you only plug it in and let it fly around your storage box

Hi Nightstalker,

Thanks for the info on the grom - Ive been looking for a while...

Is this the one?

http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/ipod-kits-c...-version-2-p-12

I have a RAV 4.3 XTR - is it easy to fit ?

Do you connect to the CD changer?

Appreciate any further info - be gentle I`m no technician... :o

Yep thats the one... :D

If you are unsure though you're best to send the chap (Richard I think) an email, he'll let you know which unit you need. ^_^

Once you've got it you need to know how to get to the back of the stereo... Now I'm not sure but I though all ravs (the 4.3s) had multi changer built in, so not sure on which port the GROM kit would fit to, again - Richard will let you know, if in doubt once youve got the kit and it doesnt work then Richard seems to be ok with offering refunds... ;)

So in regards to pulling the radio out I think you might want to have a chat with the Resident Rav guru Anchorman he is very knowlegeable and if he doesnt know the answer to your question he usually finds it and passes it on - top Banana!

Anyway, once the grom kit is fitted you need to create play lists on your IPOD, the first needs to be named 1 and left empty, the others you can name whatever you want.

when you use the IPOD you should be able to use all the remote functions on the RAV which control your stereo, if you select disc 1 then you can select whichever track/album etc you want via your IPOD, any other discs selected then the IPOD gets locked down and you're playing the 2nd play list, select disc 2 then you move on to the 3rd play list etc...

On the LC I dont have supported text, on the Rav I dont know if you get it or not, does'nt really bother me though to be honest.

In regards to fitting the GROM kit, on the LC it was a 20 min job, most the time I spent finding somewhere to put the box of trix as its quite deep so eventually managed to squeeze it behind the bit where the seat heater controls are, then its one lead to the IPOD and one to the stereo and your off! Oh, my LC4 came with turn by turn satnav which used up the cd changer port on my stereo, the connector lead you get from carputer has 3 connectors on it, one to go in the back of the box of trix another to go in the back of the stereo which leaves the last one to connect to an existing cd changer or the satnav link to the dvd player which holds the nav disc :)

Hope that helps ya... :)

Regards

PS Oh, when I asked MR T if there was an IPOD kit for my LC4 I was told there wasnt... however they could put me in touch with a company in Reading who could fit one for £250  not bad ehy for a box of trix which costs them probably £40 - 60 and then 20mins labour.....

Not all the 4.3s have a built in multi-changer, some are single play.

However, yes - the Toyota unit hooks into the auxilliary multi changer plug as shown in the ipod tutorial;

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72652

It also shows how to get the head unit out. You will have to look at the instructions for your unit to just be sure.
