Having just had my Corolla with MMT box stolen I am looking to replace with a smaller car. Does anybody know if the auto boxes fitted are in fact all the same or are different?

Water ingress seems to be a lottery but no doubt the problem will surface under warranty.

As far as I know, they operate the same. As for being mechanically the same, I *think* they might be a newer generation of MMT but it is definitely 5 speed but might offer you some improvements on smoothness of gear changes etc. I know that the Aygo is on 3rd generation of Toyota MMT and so far there appears not to be any reported problems with them that older Toyota cars have had. I have driven both my own Aygo and a Auris and their gearboxes seemed the same in terms of operation but can't be too specific with the Corolla as that predates the Auris.

Maybe someone else can clarify this!

I will find out the difference very soon as a Toyota did not have any with MMT available and thus10 weeks delivery time Portugal is a manual market and they do not have a regular supply.

Peugeot had a 2 tronic available and I am taking delivery next week. The 2tronic is Porsche designed and does not have "creep" or easy start as Totota call it on the MMT box that was on the Corolla.

This system was OK on slight hills but not steep hills where the hand brake was necessary. Apparently the 2tronic stops the car from rolling backwards on any hill for a period of time.

At least I have a Toyota engine and the car is made in a Toyota factory. Peugeot stated that they had not experienced any problems with water leaks. Time will tell!

Peugeot 107 was not delivered till the 30th December. Time has no meaning in Portugal!

The 2tronic gearbox is excellent and the change 1 to 2 is smoother and it does not hunt up and down at slow speeds like the MMT box did. Driving is great and the car is rattle free.

Very disappointed with rusty drive shafts, discs and hubs. this seems to be common to the 107 and C1. Not noticeable till you get underneath or take the wheels off. Every 107 or C1 I have looked underneath is the same. The wheel nuts were so tight with rust betweeb the wheels and the hubs that the tool supplied would have been useless in the event of a puncture. I would be interested to know if the Aygo is the same. Nothing is done on the PDI re the rust.

An English manual can be downloaded from a Peugeot site and as the three cars are basically the same I can post the link if anybody is interested.

I agree, the standard wrench for the Aygo is much too short to be of any use. Fortunately, however, I found a telescopic wheel-brace in Aldi that fits perfectly into the bag under the front seat containing the warning triangle, spare bulbs, first-aid kit etc.

The Toyota AYGO MMT and Peugeot 107 2 Tronic are the same car mechanically..identical, if you have the choice ,the AYGO has better resale vales as its a Toyota.

Aygo's have rusty shafts and steering knuckles too.

But since they're big solid pieces of metal there's no reason for panic.

Paint is purely cosmetical in those places and as you allready mentioned;

it's only visible when you take the wheels off...

I paid €12.600 which was too much but was in the showroom available. An Aygo same spec. I could have ordered 12 weeks delivery for €12.900. A C1 would have been very much less. Motorsa was not a good firm to have bought from. Salesman would say anything which he thought suited the situation and thry do not reply to emails. Peugeot only 2 years warranty as against Toyota 3. C1 and 107 come with rubbing strakes standard and the Citroens can be obtained with much bigger discounts. All makes are basically the same but visually slightly different. I thought the 107 had a better rear appearance and I think the horozontal rear lights on the Aygo contribute to the boot leaks as the rear wheels throw water up behind the bumper and into the light cluster . The seal where the wires come through is lower than on the 107.

I am going to fit rear flaps to stop the water coming up.

If you sure you don't mind having another MMT box then it seems a reasonably sensible choice, although personally I prefer proper auto boxes so would probably look at something like a Hyundai i10, cheaper than the Aygo and comes with a 5 year warranty.

The torque convertor takes a lot of power and on a small engine cuts the mpg an awful lot. The MMTand 2Tronic boxes are different to drive and it takes a while to get the full benefit. A lot of people never learn how to use them and expect them to work like a proper auto. box and complain that they are awful because they do not drive that way. I think they are very good. I agree the i10 and new Spark are really good value but the conventional boxes put me off.
