Look at me venturing into here all on my own :P

I need some help guys pretty pretty please!

The GF has bought an Aygo, without asking me about it first, and I think she has been ripped off!

She got from Toyota a Red Aygo, 2006 plate I think, basic model, chilli red, 39k miles, years mot and tax, all for £5,200 after getting £300 trade in (so £5.5k before trade in)!!

Seeing them for less on autotrader at other dealers makes me think theyhave had her trousers down, am I right in thinking this?

Four grand would be nearer the mark. :(

Thats what I thought, maybe 4.5k!

And the finance is ripping her off, she will have paid 6800 by the time she has finished!

Is there any extras that have been thrown in like warranty for a year, etc that a private seller couldn't give that could inflate the price?

Posted

One years warranty thats it!

The car had a price in the window of 5991, they knocked 500 off the price, gave her £300 trade in, then she manged to get the warranty thrown in, so it was already silly high!

Buying an overpriced car is part of the University of Life - I've only done it once and learnt my lesson. She'll learn too.

Saying that it's not high for a dealer car. Ours is three years old soon so I looked at what was being asked for them - £10 less than we paid for it.

Thanks for the help guys, she is going back to the dealer to tell them she doesn't want it as there are 2 exactly the same with less mileage at Grimsby for 4790!

She should have borrowed a bit more - they're 8100 pounds brand new.

She should be able to get out of the finance deal within 14 days of taking it out if you can find a better way to pay for it.

They claimed to be giving her 5.6% apr, but I can get loans with higher % for 48 months rather than 50, for 15 quid a month less!

Thats when alarm bells rang in my head!

We are going to try and find one with a better deal but thank you all for the help. I will more then likely be spending more time in here when she gets one :)

If she hasn't got it yet check what the get out clauses are, as it's a used car it shouldn't be too much to cancel the deal before she collects it. Even if it does mean you loose the deposit you might end up better off.

She could also claim that she can't afford the finance atm due to job worries and therefore want's out of the whole deal.

I don't think you have a get out clause on something like this, once you have signed, thats it. Done deal :(

I went back with her as she was still banging on about the car, after having done my research and knowing about cars.

Managed to save £1k on the forecourt price and over the term of the finance saved her £1300!!!!!
