The First Fault........

just had the first warning message come up, on the right hand side of the display, image of a car with traction control on or off and a "!" underneath, and on the left side a image of an engine with a "!" underneath, and in the centre "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" the car has done 350 miles..................

I do not remember pressing any buttons, except coming out of Tesco's car park I pressed the EV and it said it was unavailable due to low Battery.

:(

Don't be tempted to try to drive the car any further. A Toyota dealer will have to read the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) before they can say what is wrong with the car.

As an owner, about the only stupid things you can do is run out of petrol, or drain the Aux 12v Battery (for example by leaving the lights on when the Prius is not in READY).

In normal use, there wouldn't be any controls or buttons that you could press that would break the Hybrid Drive System.

Hi..............thanks.

Yeah Timberwolf is right. The Prius certainly shouldn't be displaying those messages unless something was wrong. Get the dealers to sort it. Hopefully it'll more than likely be a warrenty item especially considering the super low mileage the car has covered.

Let us all know how you get on.

That's real tough. I hope it is a simple fix.

Please let us know what the diagnosis reveals.

Hi all,

got the car to the dealer at 08.30, waiting for the phone call, has not come ,so I have rung them, and was told, they have sent all the fault codes to Toyota, and waiting for Toyota to get in touch with them..............the dealer thinks it could be the hybrid Battery..........so still we wait................. :(

Have faith :) It does sound a bizarre problem but the diagnostics on a Prius are quite in depth so I'm sure they sussed it out for you. Bit of a stinker that you've had this problem so early on but it should be under warranty and you'll fall in love with it again once it's fixed.

Keep us all updated.

Hi all, they have replaced the hybrid Battery, and all is fine, they said it was the only one they have ever replaced, I went online last night, and according to Mr Toyota they have never replaced a hybrid Battery since the first Prius came out, the only one's replaced was if the car had been involved in a accident.

and they washed the car down...............so we are all back to normal............................

I am so pleased it was fixed quickly and I hope you have no further troubles.

I also hope that the message from Toyota is not the equivalent of the "bug" letter . . . . . :o

Good to hear you got the fault sorted quickly. My dealer told me Toyota have never had the main Battery fail. So you are now down in Toyota history as the first owner to have Battery failure.

Hope you now enjoy many miles of trouble free motoring.

Chris.
