Winter Health Check

Has anyone taken up their dealer offer of a free winter health check?

I did today. It was booked for 11am & I was told when I booked it would take about half an hour. Got there at 10.55 - gave keys to the guy at reception who advised me it would be about 40 mins - so sat down had a coffee & read the paper. Got to midday so I got up to ask how it was going - only to see my car still outside where I had parked it. Asked the guy what was happening - he said the service person would let me know. 12.15pm - nothing - saw service person go by & asked what was occuring? reply - yours is next (only hour & 15 late). They came back at 12.50pm - all ok except you need a new wiper blade £9 - ok I said put it on. Apology for the delay - wont be long now - 1.30pm - still sitting there like a plonker on me second cup of coffee. Then bloke comes out & calls me up to pay. Two & half hours wait!!! I noticed also the bloke after me had £10 to pay for a minor problem - is this just their way of recouping some cash for their trouble or am I being a bit too cynical??

Has anyone had similar experience to this?

I'm not sure what you were expecting really? These 'free' checks are just a money spinner for the Dealers and waste of time for Joe Public - I mean, have you seen their job sheet? It consists of nothing more than a tick list of 'visual checks' on the car. I mean WTF? My 8 year old can pop the bonnet and 'visually check' the fluids and condition of the Wiper Blades and tyres and tell me if anything is a amiss.

On the plus side, at least they didn't try to rape you with telling you that your car needed unnecessary work doing :)

I wasn't expecting too much to be honest, I know you get nothing for nothing in this life! I was just curious about other peoples experience of this service. Have any of you out there taken them up on the free check?

I must've been lucky i went for one awhile back no bits or charges added, even got the car body cleaned in a fashion at rrg rochdale.

to be honest i didnt know dealers offered them certainly have not been offered one in saying that lets be honest here we all know what dealers are like they wd tell u anything just to get money out of you most people am sure are savvy enough to be able to check over their own car
