Frozen Windows

I purchased the Rav new in March, since then it has seen two frosts both recently, in both cases all four door windows have frozen in the closed position.

Now admittedly it has rained rather heavily recently and it takes a long time for the car (typical diesel) to warm up sufficently for the frost to thaw at the top of the windows to allow them to move normally.

Has anyone else seen this problem and if so how did you resolve it? Silicone hasnt helped.

I had this problem last week on my Avensis but the only way I could think of resolving it was to run the car for a while with the heater blowing warm air onto the side windows. I have heard of people using vaseline on the window openings. I have no idea if it works but If not it is easily cleaned off and will not do any damage :)

Yup, same problem. And windscreen washer system freezes too.

Would also be interested to hear of any solutions.

I guess stronger soloution in the screen wash bottle might help with the second problem but most concentrated screen wash carries warnings about not getting it on the paint so a bit wary of going too far.

Anyone know if the 4.3 has heated washer jets? Do they come on if rear screen heater swiitched on as with mirrors?

Nah - no heated washer. It's always a disappointment with UK spec cars that they don't come with a winter pack (even if optional). Heated windscreen and washer bottle would be enough.

Once did a non-stop 4 hour drive down to Cumbria in my Rav 4.1 in winter, and the washer stayed frozen all the way down.

Irrespective of the Gulf Stream effect, we do get cold enough weather - I live in the central belt of Scotland and my home is further north than Moscow city centre.

This time of year my screen wash is almost neat. I also make sure I’ve primed the pipes front and rear so I have near neat screen wash in the tubing so it doesn’t freeze. Asda are doing a 2 ½ litre concentrate for a £1

Never had a problem with frozen windows, but I do make sure that after washing my car the tops of the windows are dried and left open by a couple of centimetres so the seals can dry out. No water = No ice

I keep my whisky in the freezer, yet the 101 proof stuff doesn't even freeze....what if you wipe some cask strength whisky on your windows at night...let me know and I'll come along in the morning to lick the windows dry///

thats a new one on me - I thought Moscow was a village in Ayrshire, which is geographically naturally south of the central belt?

Not had the problem. I'm sure I have opened the windows when it is frosty to see when I'm turning out of my drive.

Anyway, with regard to the washers, like Reece I use at least 50/50 and it has never frozen.

Ah Bothy - you need to get out more.

How about a RAV4 cannon-ball run to Moscow (the one east of Poland)?

Frozen windows - Try Ctrl-Alt-Del, or hold the power button in for about 4 seconds.

Alternatively, change your operating system :) .

(sorry, predictable - wasn't it?).
