Rust

Thought I'd found a nice '51 plate 5 door VX to buy but when I peered underneath found that the boot floor was showing signs of rust from underneath together with the same on the rear valance. Also, 3 doors had slight signs of rust on the inner skin at the bottom where the seal meets the door.

How do RAVs normally fare rust wise? Is this normal for an 8 year old RAV?

In my experience I have seen light rust on the underside but never around the bottom of doors or such.

Maybe the cars had to many trips to the seaside or long drives along the beach.:)

I can comment on my 2 1994 models -

Rust is evident on the suspension arms and a bit on the subframes. The lower mileage car has less rust -logical I suppose.

there is some rust around the petrol filler tube shroud, which I removed and painted. I also painted the front passenger floor with red oxide and waxolyd the bits you can't reach easily. I think the rear legs underneath are prone to a bit of rust due to the road much being thrown up.

Generally though for a 1994 car - 15 years old - I can't complain. No rust on the doors other than where they have been chipped by keys etc. A little rust in the engine bay but just surface. Rear door is fine - not like the 90's Previa which always seems to rot from the rear window down.

hello mate

it is not for 8 years ravs

i ve noted that mine had minor traces and i ve been forced to clean each rust spot and repaiint it by spray bottle.

but firstly you'd clan it and degrease by dry solvent. i ve spent several days to make all in order.

Cheers/Igor
