Hi Everyone,

My key fob is faulty as in it will lock the car and arm the alarm but I cannot unlock the car and disable the alarm with the fob. I am happy just to use the key in the lock but I don't know how to disconect the alarm, (bit concerned there might be a imobiliser involved)

I have an avensis 1.8 GS R plate

Any help would be great

Alan

Hi,

Try this, it worked for me.

Open the key & take the transponder unit out. Then try pressing both micro-switches (Arm & Disarm). If it opens & closes, just remove the key button that is not working & insert your pinky or finger if small enough to activate the switch.

Then buy one of the keys on eBay that comes with the buttons included & change the buttons on your key. Mine now works every time

Cheers,

Marv

• Hello Spike, if you still want to disconnect the alarm it is behind the drivers side headlight. I have a 1998 1.8 GS Avensis, the alarm was going off at embarrasing intervals so it had to go. The dash light still flashes and everything else (central locking etc) works as advertised. I took the light out to get at the unit then sealed off all apertures from the elements and have had no bother since. Not too difficult a job all in all. Hope this helps. Carl.

I've had a 1.8 GS R Reg for ages and the only major problem has been the alarm siren that (commonly) was corroded to hell and went off at the most embarrasing times. It is easy enough to disconnect and that at least stops the racket. A very common problem thanks to it's location both under the washer filler bottle and at the front of the car where the salt can get to it.
