Greetings ...

Forgot to ask in my last post ... but does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to remove both the door mirror clusters from the doors ???

Mine appear to be very loose and shake about even while the car is idling ... I think I need to strip them down and have a look at the mechanisms behind the mirrors to see if it's possible to tighten a screw/bolt etc to stabilise them.

The folding function works OK but the adjustment function seems very vague at best and non-operational at worst ... coupled with the general loosness of their fixings I suspect a major overhaul is required.

Any advice/guideance would be appreciated.

The mirror glass is clipped in,very awkward to remove glass with out breaking and very little you can do behind the glass.

there are two screws underneath the mirror which are the ones you need to tighten ,they are hard to do though because they are stuck in ,so ideally need heat to loosen off before you can tighten them ,if you try with an ordinary pozidrive you will round them off

so make sure you get a good fitting screwdriver and keep the pressure on when tightening

Many thanks !

I decided after an initial attempt with the philips screwdriver that it wasn't going to be possible to get these screws out without doing them some damage.

So, I removed the mirrors from the mounting plate on the doors and turned them over; resting them on a cloth to protect the paintwork. Then I used one of my 3/8" ratchet handles with a suitable socket to hold a philips screwdriver bit. Then I fired in some WD40 and let it sit for about 2 mins.

Firm downward pressure onto the screws with corresponding pull on the ratchet soon had the screws moving. Bit more WD ... and they came out like a dream.

Before I tried to refit the screws I took the precaution of adding a spring washer first, then refitted the screws.

Et, voila !! No more floppy door mirrors ! ... and now that they are firm, the added bonus is that the electrical adjustment works better than it did before !

Thanks to those who took the time and effort to respond to my original post !
