I may be being a bit paranoid here, but i have been driving My 07 xt4 d4d more than usual the last few days, and it is driving perfectly as usual, however I just feel that when setting off from a standstill that the clutch bitepoint seems lower ie I do not seem to have to lift the clutch very far before it bites, my cab is just the opposite in that there is a lot of travel before the clutch bites, as my car has only done 13000mls i am a little concerned, can anyone advise or at least help to set my mind at rest, the gearchange is perfect on the move + my wife hasn't noticed a difference, so could just be me  any advice welcome  Stew

Speaking of clutches, could it be due to riding the clutch??

You been wearing those platform shoes again Stew?

They weren't cool first time round you know B)

It may be something as simple as different shoes, or driving position

Bothy, could it be due to riding your clutch?

I am not known to be heavy on clutches, the current clutch on my cab has done 160,000 mls..My wife doesn't drive that though.. :shutit:

(In the No,) thanks for reply above, didn't think there was any adjustment available, but if i still "think" there is a problem will give it a go

mmmmmmm

should have kept ma fingers off the keyboard...

last clutch on number 1 got cooked after less than 2000 miles...

now onto a 3 paddle racing clutch which so far has just done 300 miles to run it in. The race track is closed til february so its local use only (aye right) - no problems with slipping/launching now!!!

Well my word Chatters - that is a nasty slur when actually it came off in my hands!!!

Now stewpot my old butty that is very special clutch and I will tell you why. Because most of the RAVs have either keyless start and or hill assist control, it has been designed to have a constant travel throughout its life. Inside the pressure plate there is a travel adjuster so unlike a normal clutch like your cab which will move closer to the top of the stroke as it wears to the point it will begin to slip, the RAV clutch will self adjust to maitain the same bite point. In this way it can access the two switches - one at the bottom to make sure it will start when disengaged to the one at the top that will release the brakes as you engage the drive.

I suspect it will feel close to the bottom compared to your cab but the strokes and clearance are easy to check and I will get them for you tomorrow night.

Thanks Anchs that was what i needed, I won't bother checking it as it will only confuse me, the clutch on my cab at the moment is very toppy, only have to press it 1inch, so as you say probably the difference between the two vehicles, sometimes you just get a bee in your bonnet for no rational reason, was over your way last week took the misses to see Chatsworth all done up for Xmas, then stopped at Ashford on the water, stunning village, Cheers Stew
