My front discs are at minimum on my 2.2 D4D-T180 2006 model that has done £34K miles. I`m going for aftermarket discs/pads but there are definately 2 different part nos when I last looked.

There should be only one disc for all 2.2 D-4D engine models (pcd 5x114.3), 295mm in diameter.

It's not just Mr T's discs that wear out fast these days, it's the same for most makes since the asbestos was taken out of brake pads. Non asbestos pads are far more abrasive to the disc, we have emergency vehicles that wear discs and pads out every 30,000 miles (not toyota)

I needed pads and discs at 50k miles. Was peeved as mainly do motorway miles and am light on the breaks.

Shocked 1 pair of discs to 1 pair of pads.

My old Volvo S60 (auto too) did 100k on discs and 50k on pads....

Cheers,

Lee.

I don't know of any car manufacturer who manufactures their own braking systems and with mass production and sub-contracts the cheapest supplier tends to get the contract. Therefore this can vary during manufacture. I have seen many a poor mechanic caught out so its best to check and measure the size of the discs and maker of the caliper before hand. Especially if you are buying online as the cost of having to return the wrong units will usually outweigh any savings.

Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware,:)

Hi all

Like drrock I was most peeved to have to replace my front discs (and thus pads) as 60k despite being the lightest of brakers, and mainly motorway miles. Why then -? - because the discs had an outer ring of rust around them, thus giving them a lip, thus MOT man didnt like them !

When I changed everything, compared to the replcement pads I had used around 2mm. with at least 12 mm left.

The old discs however are useful weights in the garden

Hey ho

I found before that the OEM ones rusted on the hubs, but the 'Toyota' ones had a coating or anti rust composite. Can always pre-paint the hubs with hamerite.
