1990 St Swap

Hey guys. I have a few questions for you all, i'm going to see what you think.

I have a 1990 ST, with 170k miles on it, but still very very strong.

I want to do some type of forced induction. three options

buy a 4age, then buy the 4afe turbo kit and do a little bit of custom work. this would require me to put in low comp pistons and such.

Buy a 4agze, get a different tranny, do a front mount intercooler, and be done with it. probably a larger sc pully to pump the boost up to about 10-12 psi.

Buy a 3sgte clip, the MR2 tranny, and custom some mounts in.

I really would like to do the 3sgte, but i don't know how hard it will be on an ST. I've worked in a garage, i can weld, create a lot of custom things if i need to. I've rebuilt engines, so i'm not worried about that, just wondering how hard the 3sgte would be.

thanks guys.

Colin.

Do you currently have the 4A engine then? Swapping to the 3S engine should be pretty straightforward. Most Celi's used the 3S-GE so you can borrow the mounts from one of them, they will bolt straight onto the 3S-GTE block. You need the MR2 turbo gearbox(with limited slip diff)and the driveshafts. Probably be easier just to get the engine/box/ECU/loom all out of the MR2. Should be a VERY quick motor, all the power of a GT4 without the power drain of the 4 wheel drive system.
