Abs

Had a shifty around the forum for any ABS woes related to the RAV4 . . . nothing returned in the search of any value.

As the topic description states the RAV has started to act-up, by that I mean under middle to heavy braking almosts always reults in a skid (on wet surface) accompanied by a grinding ratchety noise coming from the OSF. Needless to say the car's grounded until I can get it seen to.

Any pointers welcome

TIA

Drew

The noise is the ABS working on the wheels and stopping the car from skidding... in this weather we have now mine does it a lot down the country roads near were I live..especially this morning   :D :D

Yes - all normal.

Don't push so hard on the pedal unless you need to as you are provoking wheel lock and the ABS intervenes. When it does it brings it to your attention by making the ratcheting and whirring you describe.

RAV good for service!

It doesn't half sound unhealthy then! I'm going to check the inner brake pads just in case they're shot - other cause could be the tyres dislike of adverse weather. They're Bridgestones with about 6 or 7 mm of tread all round - but I've never felt so unstable in a car as I do in the RAV.

Don't have any spare anchors hitting about then . . . ??? Or maybe I can tie some old tyres round the bumpers like tug boat . . .

Time for some winter wheels & tyres methinks . . .

If you say it does it under normal braking it could be due to a split ABS ring. We have had this before.
