Screen Wash Tube Under Bonnet Broken?

Recommended Posts

Last year my Aygo was happily parked underground during these Winter nights - but this year he's out in the cold and hes not liking it!!

Set off this morning, no real frost on the car, but 30 minutes into my journey I try the screen wash and it spurts a little but then stops. I try another few times but assume the jets have become frozen, so stop off at a service station and squirt de-icer into them and wait a bit. Still no joy however. I can hear the pump work, but nothing is being skooshed onto my screen.

So I eventually get to work (driving into the low sun with dirt all over screen in not recommended!) and try again... this time I notice I can see water just under the bonnet (just viewable from drivers seat) - so I open the bonnet and see 2 rubber tubes - one of which has a little plastic bit, that looks like it might fit into the end of the other rubber tube than leads down into the depths of the car, on the left hand side. This tube felt cold and might well have ice or some other blockage in it - but before I squirt de-icer into it - is this the screen wash tube?? Am I looking at the right thing and assuming correctly that they should go together?

The rear washer by the way is working fine... (although the wiper joints themselves were frozen my whole journey so the blade wasn't pressing against the window)...

*sigh*

You're probably right in assuming that the pipes are just frozen up. If a little water is making it to the widscreen then the pipes are obviously connected ok. Just wait till it thaws out a bit and I'm sure it'll be fine. If you like, you can flush out all the old screenwash then fill it up with undilted screenwash and hopefully that won't freeze up again.

yer as chris81 says

leave it for a while till ice has gone.. fill up with screen wash dont mix with water and it wont freeze up...

also for your back window wiper spray a wee bit of WD40 in there that will stop it frezzing

I upp'd the screen wash concentrate in my car just before the weather hit. Thankfully the washer jets worked when needed. I might try the WD40 suggestion as there is nothing worse than a juddering wiper that doesn't clean properly :(

Ahhhh the joys of having a heated washer system ;)

Oh dear! Did you put enough antifreeze in your screen wash?

My screen wash concentration is well over 75%. The pipes are all primed with it and so far no freezing up. I just top it up with the neat stuff. £1 a bottle for 2.5 litres from Asda

Hi, the screen wash tube has a blue cap, over to the left hand side as you look at the engine. You should be able to see the coloured liquid as the tube is semi-transparent. Hope you get it all sorted! You're going to go through the stuff like never before with this weather. :D

From what I understand, funkykitten has a problem with the actual tubing/piping/hoses

going from the washer bottle to the windscreen nozzles, not with the filler neck...
