Light car + skinny tyres + low power = great car for the snow :)

I hope all you Aygo owners out there are feeling as smug as I am as I drive past everyone sliding and stuck at the bottom of hills!

That is all :)

Aygo is indeed a great winter car. In Finland the temperature has been around -20 C almost couple of weeks now with very icy roads and Aygo has been great! Usually people here have their cars plugged in to electricity to get the engine heated up, but I do not have that. Aygo has started without problems and warms up quite nicely. I have traction control and VSC which are really good now with very slippery roads, traction control helps get Aygo moving, no problems getting icy hills up!

Your right the Aygo is the best car Iv driven in the snow so far, delighted :) One thing though, thought me locks were busted again coz the drivers one was jammed for two days, after that side getting the sun its working fine guess it was just frozen solid lol.

Best looking car there.

Yes one advantage of the standard Conti tyres is that they are pretty soft so the downside on wear is a boon in these conditions of course, especially with the narrowness as well. The car is light and front wheel drive so more positives. Yet more positives in the low power and also small footprint on the road.

Finally the last positive, it has a short wheelbase so you can use the handbrake rally style to counter the understeer. Even my car with 195/45's on was pretty good on the slippy back roads. I had 5000 rpm in 1st weaving up the road.*

Sadly my MMT gearbox got a bit unhappy with a lot of 1st and 2nd and wheel spin and handbraking started to smell a bit like bonfire night again as it kept thinking I wanted to change down to 1st when I didn't :rolleyes: :D :o It got a bit befuddled by it all to be honest.

* no other traffic about, children of cute little baby hedghogs of course.

I had a quick drift in the snow the other night on some huge car park, it was much much fun :D (chavvy, I know, but it was a laugh :P)

What is the Aygo like on icy roads? Road past my house is like an ice rink, especially after it rained on top of the ice that was there already

The Aygo is pretty good on icy roads. As you can imagine there's not a massive amount of grip on ice but the ABS works well and the short wheelbase, light weight and quick steering help.

There's a set of traffic lights outside work which are on a slight hill. Although the road was almost sheet ice, I had no problem setting off at the lights this afternoon. The Transit behind me didn't make it, it's probably still be there

Take things easy, keep the revs down and you'll be able to drive where even 4x4's struggle.

I have to say, i am surprised how well the aygo copes on ice...i expected it to be worse than the bigger cars i've driven for some reason...but it turns out its the best on ice car yet!

Was out today, and car performed fine. Tarmac driveway in front of my house is total ice rink, so thinking of trying a bit of drifting practice tomorrow. Just need to park the wife's Rav4 in the corner out of the way first

Oh the looks I got driving past everyone stuck in the snow on Tuesday night playing mariah All I Want for Christmas at full blast as I drove past stranded 4 x 4s with my windows down.

I was home by 8pm after visiting a customer popping to tescos doing my shopping and getting a bit to eat whilst work colleagues where stuck in there cars still!

Here is my car!
