Is The Rear Screen Washer Supposed To Work?

Recommended Posts

On the wiper arm behind the steering wheel there is the function to wash the back window. But all it does is make a whiny noise when I activate it.

I've had a look at the back window and can't see any washer jets. I don't think Toyota would put the switch on the car if it didn't do anything.

Any ideas?

P.S. Front washer's always work.

back jet is located up, into the tail light....

but if front are working and fluid is ejected, there must be something wrong with the line back. Unscrew tail up-light, only 2 phillips screws, and there you'll find the hose.

Check it if there is ok.

I suppose that there is enough fluid into washer tank, at engine bay.

The water might be frozen?

Probably frozen - ours was this morning as the car hasn't moved since last Thursday and had a couple of inches of snow and a layer of ice over it. The engine heat defrosted the front ones.

My rear washer has never worked.

I'll check the light as kav said.

I find that I have to engage the switch for a couple of seconds before the fluid comes out. Did you try it for 5-10 secs?

and i forgot about weather conditions in UK....

may be this is the main reason.

Well. The tube at the back is all connected. The hole in the rear light isn't blocked. And when the motor decides to work. Nothing comes out.

I tried driving around for 30 mins with the heating blasting and it still didn't work. As well as the motor stopping to work as well.

remove the pipe from the motor and try again

This might sound simple, but you need to remove the front bumper to get to the washer

pumps! Might also be possible to reach them by removing front right wheel and

removing the plastic mudguard, but removing the bumper is WAY easier...

Here you can just see them both, on the back of the bottle. And on the righthand photo you can't see them from the engine bay...

The tubing to the rear is locatedat the righthand sill by the way, on the INTERIOR side, just below the carpet,

next to the inner doorseal and the wiring loom. Runs to the taillight, then up in the C-pillar and over behind the headliner.
