Hello all.

Newbie to the forum and apologies if this has been covered, wife has a Auris TSpirit on a 58 plate, problem is low fuel indicator is very unreliable and the trip computer shows various ranges left so not consitent reading, the last time the low fuel warning came on she was only left with 4 miles range and subsequently ran out of fuel.

Is this a known problem car booked in with Toyota but did not get much sense from the guy on the service desk.

Thanks

Search the forum - you will find many topics covering fuel indicator, but usually is the other way round- shows low fuel when there is plenty left in the tank (I think that much better than your situation). You are on good path- speak to local dealer and see what they say.

Its just toyota being very protective

Really, it isn't the best idea to let fuel pumps run low on fuel. I think, especially in diesels they fuel is used to cool the pump.

It's toyota covering all bases to protect the parts.

Anyway, once the light comes on you have roughly 2 gallons till empty. So if you do 40MPG, you have about 80 miles left. I wouldn't let it go that far but 50 - 60 miles is safe.

When my indicator comes on i know for certain that there are around 9 litres of fuel left, this equates to around 60 miles of safe distance before at risk of running out.

So for example when my light comes on at 400 miles, i know i have till at least 460 miles before i need to panic.

This has been consistant from day one of owning it.

All

Thanks for the reply's however and it is the same as on all the cars i have owned, when the light comes on you normally have around 10 litres, however the Auris is only giving on first indication almost zero in the tank.
