Sat Nav Traffic Information

I have a T Spirit which comes with SatNav, which has a neat feature of picking up traffic reports and suggesting alternate routes to avoid jams / roadworks / holdups. I'm curious to know how this works.... as in where does it get the traffic information from?

I'll admit now to not having read the manual in great depth, (so apologies if the answer is blindingly ovbious!)

I believe there is something in Setup about selecting a radio station for traffic information; setting this to "automatic" has caused it to select "Classic", with no other options.

I know about RDS (and EON) for hearing traffic reports, and I know that these reports generally come from the BBC..... but for the SatNav, I presume it is picking up some form of digital information

I also know that there are some (3rd party) satnav systems that pick up a continuous feed from the likes of trafficmaster - but these come with a subscription (which I don't have)

Just curious !

Yes it comes in the 8a groups in RDS on the Classic fm carrier.

The reports are produced by ITIS

If you are really interested RDS-TNC ALERT C coding is described in EN ISO 14819- parts 1 2 and 3!
