I have been haunted with the strange noise that is coming from the rear part of the transmission system for the last 5 months. I jacked up the car one day and found the following:

i) When I spin the rear wheel in the direction it would rotate when the vehicle is moving forward, there is a smooth motion all around.

ii) However when I spin the rear wheel in the opposite direction, there are some part of the rotation where it gets a little bit stiff and then ease off again for the rest of the spin.

I guess this explain the noise that is coming from the rear transmission of the car when reversing. But this puzzle me what could be the reason for such sticky rotation? Bearing? Brake pads? Differential Gear? Disc?

Appreciate your views and experience sharing. Thanks!
