Catalytic Converters.

Chaps, My 2002 Corolla Verso (1600cc) detected a fault in the engine management system. That is, the yellow engine light is now displayed on the dashboard. I took the car to my local Toyota dealer and they diagnosed the reason as a fault with the catalytic converter. They told me the system will not fail but unless we get it looked at the car might fail its next MOT in September 2010 and if the EMS detects another engine fault we would not know about it until the problem with the converter is addressed first.

The bad news is that the cost of replacing it is going to be around £990. For a car that's nearly eight years old it's not worth throwing new toys to an old dog. If I have to I will but I'd like to know if there is a reputable company that could provide a converter as we all know Toyota's parts can be very expensive? If that is possible would that company be able to reset the EMS light on the dashboard or is that something only an authorised Toyota shop can do?

Thanks for any advice.

Peter
