Independent Garage Recommendation

Hi all, pretty new here but great forum!

I have a 2001 1.0l yaris with 80k on the clock, on start up and idle the timing chain is pretty rattly so took it to the local main stealers. They have quoted £350 for JUST the chain, and £750 for new chain, sprockets and tensioner which seems expensive!! :o

Can anyone recommend a good independent garage in worcestershire area??

Before splashing out a fortune, i would change the oil. Has the car been serviced regularly?

If not, the oil could be breaking down and not properly lubricating the timing chain, hence rattle.

Changing the engine oil is cheap and easy to do, or any garage would do quite cheap or take it to National Tyres & Exhausts and they will put new oil in for you for about £25. ;)

If you are willing to travel to Droitwich talk to Kevin Clarkson on 01905 778368 - he's an independent Toyota secialist. I've been using him since 2003 for my Supercharged Corolla. Tell him John from Cardiff recommended him.

Often a rattling timing chain is caused by lack of oil on start up due to not fitting a standard Toyota oil filter - but a pattern one without an anti drain valve.

Thanks! Will give him a bell. With regard to oil/servicing, the car has FSH, noticed the chattering earlier this year and a few months later took it in for full service but noise continued.
