Hi all,

After 2 occasions of a swimming pool in the rear passenger footwell -a nice 1 inch pool last time I,ve got rid of my lovely aygo 3 door aygo. Dealer was great and carried out toyoto modifications but the things I originally liked about the aygo were getting on my nerves, soured by the leaky speaker seals. The cramped cabin, crap stereo, crap front seats that have a mind of their own, spubik metal interior, lack of instrumentation. A pity because this should be a great little car which has a top notch engine. Getting a 5 door tr yaris 2010 spec on new years eve. A proper car again.

SHAME ON YOU TOYOTO FOR PRODUCING THE AYGO TO BE A LOAD OF CRAP.

If this had been my first toyoto exp I wouln,t touch any of them with a barge pole. But we've both had yaris for the past 10 years and had no probs. :o :o  :D

Sorry to hear you Aygo experience has not been a happy one. When I decided to take my old BMW 318is off the road which was a 2 door, I was initially looking for a cheap new car such as the base model 2dr Aygo. However, the salesman advised me against the base 2dr and recommended a 5dr aura(same as Aygo+ model in UK). Have to say, I have been very pleased with its performance. Agree that instrumentation is basic (got a rev counter from Peugeot which helps) and finish is not high spec, but the Aygo is a small car built down to a price so I have accepted this. I have a leather steering wheel waiting to be fitted and will be upgrading the sound insulation so this should make the interior more hostpitable. The front seats not having a proper tilt switch is unforgivable, even in a budget car and Toyota should realise this. To keep costs to a minimum, they could have saved on initial tooling and design costs and just produced a 5dr version. We have owned a Yaris, Corolla and a Rav4 also and all of them posessed a crap stereo so this is not unique to the Aygo, even the 20 year old Pioneer unit in the Beemer (4 x 5w) is better.

lol...

I agree there is many things on the aygo that could be better...but looking at it from a business point of view, its perfect in every way.

The profit they must be taking in on this car must be something to behold...hence why years later, another, more expensive version (the IQ) appears.

Another way to look at it is: when they set out to design this car, one of the objectives must have been simplicity and theyve kept to that. You've got to draw a line and stop at some point.

My old Yaris was far better built and did nice lift off oversteer this Aygo is built and designed poorly but the engine makes up, even though the handling is too "safe" in comparison.

This is a very un Toyota car, more fun but a lot more faults. It's built alongside C1's and 107's, surely no conincidence?

It’s the French Connection that lets it down. It’s not a pedigree Toyota :(

I think he means that the Aygo its not 100% Toyota. It has influences from the 107 and C1

so the Yaris was not 100% Toyota when that was first built in France, what does 100% Toyota mean, every part every component built and made in Japan?

Car components are manufactured by the likes of Bosch, Valeo, Lehmforder for many different car companies. It doesn't matter where the components come from, what matters is the quality of the components supplied, the quality of the cars design and how well it is assembled.

Well design wise it is not 100% Toyota, hence why the rear wiper seems to be set up for left hand drive, as is the bonnet release, that's setup for left hand drive also. Given that it is made in conjunction with the French manufacturers you wonder how much say they had on the parts that went into it also considering it is mainly designed for the continent.

The first Yaris was made in Japan before moving to France, I'd bet they were better made as well ;)

I feel the AYGO has had very little to do with Toyota in Japan, they agreed a joint venture to produce a small European car with links to Peugeot & Citroen and of that joint venture Toyota's input was the engine, it has all the hallmarks of a French built and designed car, as I've owned and worked on many many Toyota's over the years and its just not one of Toyota's home grown products.

Yes Toyota is a very global brand and cars are made all over the world but like the Corolla built in the UK it was also produced back in its homeland, unlike the AYGO that has never set foot in Japan and is not listed in their new car range.

The AYGO is a sign of the times, its Badge engineering ,don't get me wrong they are not the first and I'm sure they will not be the last, manufactures are jointing together all over the world to cut design costs, the Fiat 500 share the same mechanicals and under body as the new Ford Ka, the Renault Master van is re badged the Vauxhall Movano , also Fiat, Citroen and Peugeot all make the same van just re badged.

The AYGO is the first of this type of Badge engineered from Toyota, it remains to be seen if they go on to link with other manufactures in the future.
