hi,

I have a 57 plate t-spirit. I thought it was meant to have ABS.

I tried to test it out tonight but it seems like it doesnt have ABS.

is anyone able to confirm if it is meant to have ABS or not?

Thanks loads

My 07 plate t-spirit has ABS. Came in handy during the recent snow too.......

How did you test it? The icy conditions are good time to see if it works.

I just drove at about 5 miles per hr last night and slammed on the brakes. It just skidded.

Any car I have ever drove that had ABS fitted haa an ABS warning light on the dash that illuminated when the ignitioin was switched on and then went out when the engine was started.

Also remember the ABS pulse systems stops working when the vehicle reachs low speed otherwise the car would never stop - so don't judge by the wheels locking at a very low speed especially when there is frost or snow around. A pasenger aircraft skidded of a runway a few days ago for exactly the same reasons. If you doubt the car has no ABS system fitted get down underneath and search for ABS sensors or reluctor rings, etc.:)

if your on ice the abs wont work as well as it will see 4 locked wheels and assume the car is stationary.

your auris will have ABS and possibly VSC with Brake force assist. look at the switches near your knee when sat at the wheel. if there is a switch with a skiding car then you have VSC.

i have tested it on an empty wide road at 60mph. basically jumped on the pedal you can feel the brake pedal jumping under foot and you stop in a dead straigt line very quickly. one of the best things on the Auris.

  • 2 weeks later...

ABS on the Auris is pretty crap at low speeds (unless it is ice and you can then hear it). It just does not kick in and you slide. I found this out when I hit a daft greyhound at 20mph (dogs fine) and a few other emergency stops.

I do find this strange as I know the Avenis has one of the best brakes of any car and my Yaris appears to be better than the Auris.
