Ebc Green Stuff Pads

I recently fitted a set of 4 EBC Green Stuff brake pads as to be honest I was sick of the dirt form the oem pads, I have found these to be 100% cleaner and have better bite when cold otherwise they seem the same. I got my pads for our T180 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200401914640 but be warned there are 2 different types of brake callipers on the T180/SR180 we have a OCT 07 T180 from this seller, Steve is well aware of this now thanks to the problems I had.

I had these on my R , what a difference.

They feel the same apart from the bite when cold but the wheels are now always clean instead of thick black dust that does not come off that easy ;)

If the Green Stuff pads don't dirty the wheels as much where does the friction material that wears off go then or does the disks just wear instead.:)

All brake friction materials need to wear otherwise they would glaze and friction would be dramatically reduced.

There's no black dust because they contain no carbon.

The only downside is slightly higher disc wear, but that's driving style dependant and in "normal" use you won't see a significant difference.

Can I please ask a general brake replacement question.

When you guys change your pads and have to wind back the pistons to fit in the new ones, do you just undo the brake resevoir cap and push back the pistons or do you slacken the brake caliper bleed nipple and push back the pistons?

I ask this because on my wifes corsa I did the former and this resulted in the Brake master cyclinder seals inverting on themselves resulting in a new master. (don't like just changing seals).

Or is this a common fault on vauxhalls and I have nothing to worry about on me auris..................

Thanks in advance............

For what it's worth I always loosen the bleed nipples when winding pads back in. I had a Sierra Cosworth many moons ago and I gave it to a "specialist garage  " to change the rear pads and they screwed up the braking system just winding them back. Can't remember exactly what went wrong, but know it cost them a fortune and since then...

Of course, there are probably many people who never bother to crack the nipples and get away with it. The choice is yours, but in my opinion the "proper way" is crack 'em.

My neighbour is a mechanic at a local Honda dealer and he only wanted £30 to fit all 4 pads, as you need a special tool for the rears to wind the piston back IMO it was not worth getting dirty for £30

I just used pliers for my GTi, I don't know what the piston looks like, maybe you can get a photo? All I had to do was wind the piston back in which needed a lot of strength but it'd doable. I know my car is far older but it could be similar.....

You can't just wind in the piston, you need to add a fair bit of pressure to it before it'll wind in.

You can do it with a g-clamp and water pump pliers (the technique's documented in various places on the net), but you risk wrecking the head of the piston.

I have been through my feedback and updated the eBay link as I added the wrong one before ;)

Yeh I had to put a lot of pressure on it, I undid the reservoir cap and had to really give it the berries to push it in. Once it starts it's easy enough to complete the 7 or so turns until it locks.

It doesn't go down without a fight though I do agree with that!
