1.4 D4d...lost Power And Mpg Went Down

I've been having many problems with my Auris from the very first day i bought it...i won't get into all of my problems since i consider, seat fabric, cabin noises, road noises,...not important!!!! In front of my other problems that is!!

After a year or so and being happy with my car power wise i noticed a decrease in power and decrease in mpg.

I was averaging 45mpg and now it went to 35mpg driving mostly highway.

I went to T and changed common rail, fuel pump and nothing. Then changed turbo and still nothing...after a week in the garage and founding nothing on it i got it back.

Somehow the power increased a bit but not as it was when i first bought it.

I decided i had to live with it...

Then i found a few posts in here where owners are complaining about loss of power after a reflash of the ECU.

Then i remembered that they did a reflash on mine just before the problems occurred.

Is there a problem with Toyotas emissions and changed the map on the ECU costing us loss of power?

I know that emissions and mpg don't go together.

I know also that they changed the 1.4d4d engine from 2007-2009 cars to a newer version.

Hi chris, ive had problems with my 2ltr TR D4D since a recall for emissions in may 2009, car was perfect before alteraration to ECU a lot of pinking and loss of power with a decrease in MPG,toyota now telling me the complete injection system needs replacing???? and they cant tell me what has caused the fault, tho i know the only difference to my car is the emission issue! so £1900 repair bill to be paid by toyota thank god!!! but will this problem come back after cars 3 + years old!!! hope this helps you cos i dont think we can be the only 2 to have sussed the emissions problem.

hi mate

i am in fact surprised the T has changed comon rail (simple piece of PIPE !!!!) and fuel pump.

just remember that there are several main reasons of power loss, as below:

- poor injection spray (due to injector tips wear down);

- EGR valve clogging by carbon deposits due to poor injection;

- T/C fault due to the same reasons with carbon;

- fault of SCV on the pump due to el solenoids short cut.

All other issues are arised from the above.
