Hello

First of all I would like to say "HI" - i.m a new member of the site having just bought a 2006 avensis 2.2 D4D T4.

I was impressed with all the comments and the forum has already helped me with a low Rev growl which turned out to be the air box and pipe rattling

the rest of my car is immaculate apart from one area which is scratched and generally a bit messy. It is on the side of the centre column to the right of the glove compartment. I have tried to clean it up, but think a replacement panel would be better. I think it is the following part:

55303B PANEL SUB-ASSY, INSTRUMENT, LOWER

Is this easy enough to replace or has anyone any other ideas?

Thanks to any ideas

Robert

The manual shows this to be one piece right across the car and it will require a lot of work to remove all the kit installed in it. Also the manual carries a warning about the effect removal can have on the air bag above.

Hi,

The attached picture shows the (LHD) lower panel sub assembly.

Replacing it will be a job of biblical proportion, requiring a complete rebuild of the front interior.

Are you sure you want to do this?

If it were my car, I would probably spend a couple of hours experimenting with some paint to obtain the correct color and a tiny brush instead. ;)

Yes the more I have looked into it the less keen I am......Its a no go especially as the best quote I got to day was £520. The part is £177 +vat on its own.

So........

I am now experimenting with some thin leather vinyl that I have bought today which sneaks around the panel nicely in situ and stretches across and into the glove compartment. I havent quite got the template perfect enough yet to risk gettting the glue out, but I will match it on the other side as well. As the car is a T4 and has quite a bit of carbon fibre as well as the leather I am also playing with some adhesive backed carbon fibre vinyl to try and do some thing good. Ill upload the pics to this thread if I can get a custom made solution

cheers robert

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this one!

I have now repaired it myself satisfactorily using some thin vinyl material which I picked up in Dunelm Mill of all places. This repair cost me £6.99 plus some scissors, a newspaper and some glue see what you think and feel free to comment. Its gotta be better than the £520 toyota quoted:-)

cheers

Hi Mike,

I bought this from the store in Stevenage and it was on the large rolls in the fabric department. They had a number of colours including black, grey (which I also bought), blue, red, plus a couple of others. I think this is the link you need,

http://www.dunelm-mill.com/webapp/wcs/stor..._-1_50522_10551

if you select the black colour below the picture you can see the texture. Be careful as they also sell some plain black vinyl without the texture. The stuff I bought was £6.99 per metre, and has a white nylon type backing! The grey is also very nice looking. All I have to do now is match the other side which will probably take another couple of hours of template drawing and fiddling.

By the way I wouldnt bother with so called dashboard repair kits which are tedious, splodgy and generally pretty rough. Nice idea, but the execution is extremely hard to get any kind of quality result

cheers

Top stuff Robert, thanks for the info, might get myself along to my local Dunelm and get some. Very impressed with the result on yours.

Cheers
