I tried to go to Leeds today, when i left the house there was a light fall of snow and it looked like it would be ok. It then started heavy and after 1 mile i turned around as my customer called to say they couldn't get out of their house! So i turned around and headed for home unfortunaltey i couldnt get up Anston Hill, however some strangers came to my rescue and after about 2 hours of messing about we my car into a side road. Whilst i was waiting a lady gave me a cup of tea :D , really nice of them to help me. We live very insular lives and its great when you realise people you dont know are friendly

Stuck here:

I was touched, people put themselves for me. I helped some people out on the way home as however i would have done this anyway, the best bit was the tea was strong with no sugar just how i like :yahoo:

Gaz, if they knew you they wouldn't have helped :P ;)

Absolutely, it restores your faith in humanity a bit!

Reminds me of last year when I was stuck pulling off a country side lane onto a busy road, the chap behind in an Audi got out and gave me a push without me asking.

I'm still chuffed, i want to head out with a spade :D

I still remember that post, the Audi driver must have borrowed the car  ;)

I can't forget around 14 or 15 years ago , when my car broke down on the A13 , the snow came down quick and heavy , whilst stuck in a que of traffic i was listening to the radio and they issued a traffic update they reported that the Beckton flyover had been closed due to heavy snow and that traffic ques were as far back as the rotherhithe tunnel , after a couple of hours i eventually got a couple of miles past the canninig town flyover when my engine just cut out and died , i kept turning the key over but nothing , a couple of other motorists helped to push my car to the side of the road , where it joined an ever increasing row of other broken down abandoned cars , i then started to walk the remaining 8 miles home , head down feeling sorry for myself , one of the motorists leaned out of his window and offered me a lift , it was " white van man :o " shock horror , it would appear that some are human after all  he asked where i had to get to and tells me he's going to Rainham , i said thanks don't go out of your way just drop me off by Lodge Avenue and i'll walk from there , this bloke truly had a heart of gold though , and when we eventually got to lodge avenue he insisted on taking me the rest of the way home , i thanked him and reiterated that i did'nt want him to go out of his way and besides he may get stuck on a side road , but he was adamant that he could'nt let me walk , so i directed him to Chadwell Heath where i lived , and he drove me home direct to my front door , i could'nt thank him enough , i was truly gratefull , i asked if he would like to come in for a cuppa and to warm up , but he stated that he should be getting off home , i then tried to give him some money for petrol as he had gone out of his way to take me home , but he was having none of it , he flatly refused to accept anything other than my verbal gratitude , and set off , the kindness did'nt end there though , just as i was bidding him farewell my neighbour came out and asked where my car was , i said abandoned on the A13 about a mile off the Bekton Flyover , he said give it another hour or so for the traffic to die down and i'll drive you back and give you a tow , when we got back to my car at about 10pm the traffic had gone , my neighbour had started to attach the tow rope , and i decided to try the ignition again , to my surprise the car started , just , so i followed my neighbour home under my own steam , it turns out that the alternator was not fully charging the Battery and the Battery was weak and had depleted whilst idleing in the gridlocked traffic , not sure why it started when i returned but it did .

I'll never forget the kindness though , shown to me by the white van driver , he did'nt know me from adam yet went out of his way to help a stranger

Wish people were like that here!

I got stuck on a junction with a slight incline, took awhile to get the car going after a bit of rocking... the helpful bloke behind in his 4x4 thought he'd help matters by standing on his horn
