Not Starting At Mild Temps.

Im really hoping someone can help me.

A bit of background. I bought the car in July08 but it was registered in January 08.

All fine with the car.

The car starts with no problems at minus temps.

However, at about 5 degrees, I try and start the engine and it sounds like the Battery has no power. Takes about 10 mins to get the car started. This happens 2 times in the spave of 2 weeks.

I take it in to the garage and they have a look at it and say they cant find a fault.

No problems for about 1 year. Until last week.

As before, the car starts with no problems at minus temps. However, when it was 2degrees, the exact same thing happens. But nothing since.

The reason I am asking is because I am taking the car in for the 2 year service but dont want to get it back qithout them finding something....

first time change the Battery with a new one, then change the starter relay retractor assembly, it's possible to lose the power thru electrical contacts.

It doesn't necessarily follow that the temperature has anything to do with the problem and may only be coincidence and confusing the issue ..... that doesn't of course mean it's not temprature related!

There is a possibility .... remote possibility but anyway .... is the top of the Battery damp/wet at all? I have known dampness on top of a Battery to cause an issue similar to this.

Check Battery terminals for security and signs of corrosion.

Check all starter cable connections for security and signs of corrosion.

Could be a faulty solenoid, occasionally not making proper connection, difficult to test this though as fault is intermittent.

Could be a fault in the starter motor, again hard say as fault is intermittent.

Sorry can't really pin this down, but intermittent faults are often a real pain to diagnose and are usually uncovered by going through the relevant systems methodically looking for potential faults or when complete failure occurs.
