Noise From Engine

Hi all, I recently bought a 51 plate celica vvti 140. It has 80000 miles on the clock and has just been serviced.

The past week or so, whilst driving it there has been a squeeking noise coming from the engine, I'm thinking the clutch or gearbox, but I'm no expert! So any help would be appreciated. The noise happens whilst driving in gear, if it is stationary it doesn't make it.

If I keep the handbrake on and get the car to biting point it'll make it. Has anyone ever had this problem in the past, or does anyone know what it is, and if so I there a reasonably easy way to fix it? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like your Aux. Belt needs replacing with possibly the Tensioner too.

If it is the belt, the wouldn't it be a constant noise as it was in the thread, as opposed to when the clutch is biting? By all means replace the belt because it will do good anyway and it's not expensive, but I doubt it would be only that.

Maybe check to see if they tightened the pulley too much? That could cause a squeak... :)

ive got the same problem, ive pinned mine down to the power steering unit. It squeaks like a stabbed mouse at start-up and when its cold but quietens down when its warmer.

Ive not had the nuts to try and rebuild it just yet, and i dern't go to toyota for advice, new unit seems to float a £200+ bill :)
