Carina Diesel Maintenance Tips Required

Hi, Ive got Carina Diesel thats still going strong 18 months after buying it for £150......180,000 miles on the clock and all its needed is a new exhaust system and a radiator, both of which were cheap to fix.

Seeing, as the old girl has done me proud, other than usual oil and filters are there any service recommendations for the diesel.....do I need to get valve clearances done at any stage?

Last owner did the cam belt, so thats something I don't have to worry about.

Any other tips?

Of course you have to check the valve clearances, but I don't know how often it is sheduled on the dieselengine. The Haynes only covers the petrol powered cars. Valve clearance every 54 000 miles for the 4A, 7A & 3S engine.

There is lot of other things to check too, I will only brain storm some of them. I don't know if you count those as oil and filters. I will not write down how often neither, just to give you some idea that the car maintainance is not only oil and filters.

brake fluid

clutch fluid

Gearbox oil

brakepads/shoes(disc/drums)

engine coolant

handbrake adjustment

drivebelts (generator, AC, etc)

Battery

Driveshafts rubber gaiters

Lightbulbs

roadwheels

etc...

Personally I have found most car manufacturers service lists to be quite poor. So I typed out my own list. It may not be exhaustive but at worst its the very least I would do at least every 18,000 miles or so.
