Hi guys,

These forums are great...a lot of noble mechanics out there!!! Anyways, I did a service on my Avensis sr a few weeks back...when checking the old spark plugs...they had light brown dusting on them....NO black oil or white deposits...is this a good thing? And does it mean the engine is in good condition? And does it mean that its not an oil burner?

Please let me know somebody...Thank you guys

Sounds like the fuel to air mixture is spot on by the colour of the plugs but you will know how much oil is being used by noting the mileage and how much oil has been used after say 500 miles but don't leave it for 500 miles before you check it! When you first take ownership of any car you should always check all the levels every few days until you get a good idea of what's going on and then every week or so depending on the mileage you are doing. An engine doing long high speed runs can have clean spark plugs but may still burn oil, around town journeys may give a different result.

Regards Pete.
