What To Look For On A Test Drive ?

Hi all,

Im really keen on getting a Rav4 as my next family car. Ive never owned a Toyota before and dont really know what to look for when going to view and test drive.

Im after a 5 door diesel 04 0r 05 plate. Ive looked on various reviews and found that there can be problems with the turbo. Is this true, if so how can i tell if a vehicle has got problems or is about to have problems with the turbo. do you need to let the engine run a little after a long journey in order to let the turbo cool down ?

Cheers,

Paul

hi paul

firstly ,welcome to the club (or the nut house if you prefer  )

right, the toyota rav4 is one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet,..im sure most will agree

i have covered 55'000 miles in mine now,it clocked up 86'000 in total,on my second battery(as last one wore out),new brakes(pads & shoes),as other wore out,in other words beyond routine maint.

its never let me down yet (by breaking down)in 4 1/2 years, only via worn out flat Battery twice, hardly a worry

from what i can gather,as long as its been serviced and maintained properly, its will just go and go

i have put mine through quite a lot in last few years, wading through 2' water, green laning through woods, across fields, following other 4x4's.

just make sure service book fully stamped, cant really go wrong, loads of folk on here with help & advice  nationally & internationally.

hope you find one,4.2 model is my shape, permanent 4wd (i think its best one)
