hi mark,

toyota have got a modification for booming/engine noise @70-80mph.

it tends to happen @3000-4000rpm

contact your dealer for them to fit the parts.

This is sometimes annoying feature, and indeed there's a modification kit available from Toyota. It doesn't completely remove the noise, but should dampen it. I've already ordered the parts for my T Sport, and parts+labour should be under warranty.

Hi peeps,

Whats this noise everybody is talking about, I haven't heard of this complaint before. Cheers

hi john

this "noise" is when you drive car through all gears but most noisy in 5th and 6th when engine speed hits around 3000rpm a engine noise/vibration comes through cabin from the sub frame transmited from the centre engine mounts and then quickly disapears at around 4100rpm

I'm getting my T-Sport on Friday (currently like a six-year old on Christmas Eve :D ).

I noticed the boominess when I test drove the car but reckon I can live with it although if there is a mod I would definately want to get it fitted. Has anyone had this fitted yet and how much of a difference did it make? Is the work done under warranty in the UK?

By the way, my car is ten months old with 9k miles on it. If anyone's interested in finding out out how much their car is depreciating / what they current values are, I did quite a lot of looking about / haggling and I'd be happy to share the info.

Cheers,

Grum

Hi Grum,

Ok give us a clue. What did you pay for your car? I bet you will enjoy it when you get it, being in Scotland. I have some pretty good roads near me in the Peak District but they are alot busier than most of Scotland. I'd love to give my car a good work out up there in the summer.:D

Car was about £12,500, 10 months old, 9kmiles. That's about £3k below list price. Its Thunder Grey and pretty much imaculate.

Of the two other cars I actually went to see, the best price I was offered was £13000 for a 6k mile car with Sat Nav and £13500 for a 13K mile car with leather. Both were Carlo Blue.

Best price I was offered for a new car was £14700 so I reckon first year depreciation is about 15% which isn't too bad at all (realatively :) )

Interested in hearing whether people think I got a good deal or not...

Oh, and yeah - there are some really stupendous roads not too far away I looking forward to getting re-aquainted with...

Cheers,

Grum

Alright mate,

I'd say you got a pretty good deal there. Did you test drive any other cars to compare the t-sport against? I can't wait for the weather to pick up in spring, Will definetly be having fun then. Just ordered the TTE front spoiler, T-sport mats and optional subwoofer, hope to be getting a set of larger alloys soon as this is my only real gripe with this otherwise excellent car. Cheers, John

Hi John,

I test drove a Civic Type-R which got rejected due to lack of standard kit, being three insurance groups higher and having sod all grip on the typically wet day I drove it (I reckon the Corolla would kick a type-R's ***** in anything other than a bone dry road - and there's not too many of them round here :))

I also preferred the Corolla's more understated looks - the type-R stands out more, and trust me - parking round here, that's a bad thing (nasty combination of neds and ******-up students all too ready to do bad things to your pride and joy)

I also test drove a Focus ST170 and Astra SRi 2.2. Both were pretty nicely balanced cars but just didn't excite me the way the Corolla (or the Civic) did. Also, the Focus interior is prety mingin.

Oh, and my girlfriend liked the colour of the T-Sport best

;)

Cheers,

Grum

Hi Grum,

The Focus and Astra surely will not have the power to match both the Corolla and Civic.

Maybe the Focus will be close but Astra is nowhere near the power rating of all the other three.

In Australia there's no word on the release of the Civic Type R, but I'm sure if i had to choose between these four, i'd choose either the Corolla or Civic.....

Hi siewhowt,

Yes, both the Astra and Focus lack the Jap cars' outright power, but both have less peaky engines - pull from low revs in third and the Corolla would have a bit of catching up to do with both - and both have really nice handling. If out and out straight line performance isn't your only consideration, they are both worth looking at.

Ultimately, I decided the Corolla was perfect though. A pussycat in my daily urban slog to work - but a beast when called upon.

I'm getting really impatient now - 24 hours to go (touch wood).

Hi..I hope by the time you read this you have received your new corolla.. I remember well phoning my local dealer and being told that the car transporter wouldnt be arriving for another day.!!! the sheer disapointment!...my bro took me in to collect the car..in his 225 bhp Audi TT...so much for my cars break in period on the way home. Despite being left behind i was still very in awe of the Corollas performance....especially in take off...but got beaten further on up the gears...shame!..

one thing though....i'm considering the lowering springs..(cosmetic!) is it ok to stay put with the standard 16 " wheels? Am i going to have a knock on effect or anything?

thanks guys

:)

lowering springs are definetly first thing i would do... and they will make your TS look nice with standard wheels as well
