Is your RAV a Diesel Model????? by any chance...

Is the sound like a metallic rattle or sounds as if there's a hole in the exhaust..... If so read the pinned post at the top of the RAV section about the DMF's.....

It's petrol not diesel. Sounds like a hole in the exhaust but had it checked at kwikfit and all ok so not the exhaust.

Yes, not the dreaded DMF. No apparent problems with the drive or transmission. It's been working like a dream in the snow we have had up here for the past 3 weeks.

Where is the noise coming from? If its under the bonnet, check no pipes have come off the air filter/inlet manifold.

If your Rav drives ok then I doubt there is a fault on the inlet side of the engine. Is the noise relative to revs? Although Mr. Kwikfix may have said the exhaust was physically ok I would say it points to a gasket either between sections or manifold, or possibly a cracked manifold.

Thanks for that

The noise does seem rev related. Kwikfit man did have good good look and found nothing but did suggest that it might be the manifold but could not get a look due to the shielding. There is no noise when when the motor is idling or when revved when stationary. I can only hear it when the car is being driven. All a bit of a puzzle. Guess it's a trip to my local garage to let them have a look.

thanks

Duncan
